Brett Jacob Szematowicz is a judge of the Pinellas County Court in Florida, having been appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2020. Before ascending to the bench, he was a founding partner of Greater Tampa Law, P.L., where he specialized in criminal defense, family law, and personal injury. His extensive trial experience includes over 75 jury trials brought to verdict, ranging from second-degree misdemeanors to first-degree felonies. Earlier in his career, he served for nearly four years as an Assistant State Attorney in the Sixth Judicial Circuit, handling specialized cases such as DUI manslaughter and child abuse. He also gained valuable civil litigation experience in insurance defense, focusing on complex sinkhole and property loss claims. Szematowicz earned his B.A. in Justice from American University and his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law. Throughout his private practice, he received numerous accolades, including being named among the Nation’s Top One Percent by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel. He remains active in the legal community through memberships in the St. Petersburg Bar Association and the Florida Bar’s Criminal and Family Law sections.
