John Walter Lawit is the founder and principal attorney of John W. Lawit, LLC, where he has dedicated over 40 years to the practice of immigration law. Throughout his distinguished career, he has represented tens of thousands of clients worldwide in complex matters ranging from family-based petitions to deportation defense. A former U.S. Immigration Judge, Mr. Lawit brings a unique and authoritative perspective to his legal practice and has shared his expertise as an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico and Texas Tech University. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of New Hampshire School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico. Mr. Lawit is admitted to practice law in Texas, New Mexico, and Pennsylvania, and he previously served as a foreign legal consultant for the Law Society of British Columbia. His professional contributions include authoring New Mexico’s Immigration and Nationality Law Practice Act and serving as a former chair of the Immigration Law Section of the State Bar of New Mexico.
