Mary Ellen Maatman is a distinguished Professor of Law at Delaware Law School, where she has been a member of the faculty since 1990. She teaches and writes extensively in the areas of employment discrimination, torts, legal methods, and law and literature. Her academic career began at Widener University as a legal methods professor before she transitioned into her long-standing role as a professor of law. Prior to her career in academia, she served as a litigation associate at the firm Ballard, Spahr, Andrews & Ingersoll in Philadelphia. She also gained valuable experience serving as a law clerk for Judge Marvin Katz in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Professor Maatman earned her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was a comment editor for the Law Review. She also holds a B.A. in English Literature from Swarthmore College. Throughout her career, she has remained active in professional organizations such as the Legal Writing Institute and the Association of Legal Writing Directors. Her scholarship includes published works on legal rhetoric and the intersection of law and storytelling.
